About the Author
From Court Reporter to Captioner


The author of From Court Reporter to Captioner is Chris Crosgrove. Chris is currently the Manager of Recruiting and Training for Caption Colorado, L.L.C. His responsibilities include finding, hiring and training realtime shorthand writers for broadcast captioning positions. Chris also has served as an educator and program director for court reporting training programs in Colorado, Nebraska and California.

In his current position, Chris not only manages the hiring and training of captioners, he is a live broadcast closed captioner himself at Caption Colorado. He previously also captioned for Vitac, Inc. from 1996-1999 and for Nebraska Educational Television from 1994-1996.

Chris has taught machine shorthand theory and court reporting at Bakersfield Community College in Bakersfield, California; at the Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, Nebraska and at the Denver Academy of Court Reporting in Denver, Colorado.

Chris is also a Certified Program Evaluator for the National Court Reporter’s Association (NCRA) and served for six years on the Realtime Certification Committee. He has taught many realtime seminars for NCRA at annual conventions and CASE Teachers’ Workshops. He has taught at the Stenograph Teachers’ Workshop and served on Stenograph’s online education planning committee during 2000-2002.

Chris lives in Bakersfield, California and holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education from Wayne State College (Wayne, Nebraska) and an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Court Reporting from the Denver Academy of Court Reporting.
