This lesson will introduce you to the concept of realtime. You will then learn what realtime output looks like and how the output gets from the steno machine to the CAT computer, and then from the CAT computer to the realtime clients computer. | The learning objective of this unit is to prepare the student to understand and demonstrate how to set up his/her CAT software of choice for a clean realtime translation in the judicial or deposition setting. > Your CAT software comes equipped with many features that can enhance your realtime performance. These features enable you to provide cleaner output, perform edit commands from the computer or steno keyboard, and communicate with counsel during the realtime session. This lesson provides the opportunity to practice these software tools. |

| What to Bring: Know Your Hardware! | ||||||||||||||
| The learning objective of this lesson is to gain an understanding of how to properly use each piece of equipment needed to provide effective realtime translation in the legal setting. Topics covered include: > hardware options and their uses in specific situations how to plan the equipment needed for specific types of realtime assignments how to set up and test the chosen configuration of equipment to correctly provide the required service. > This unit introduces the concept of the realtime hardware checklist as a planning tool for effective realtime setup. |

| The Night Before the Job: Dress Rehearsal | ||||||||||||||
| In this lesson, the student simulates the final steps needed for performing realtime output. Students create and maintain job and realtime dictionaries, learn to activate output settings, and practice with audio and printouts of actual job situations specific to realtime in the legal deposition and judicial setting. | ||||||||||||||

| The learning objective of this lesson is to complete a simulated realtime deposition assignment using the realtime checklist and equipment setup checklist, and complete the course Online Realtime Examination. | ||||||||||||||
