Publicized as the fastest Windows operating system yet, Microsoft Windows XP® continues the momentum of earlier versions of Windows with quicker startup, better performance and a new simplified visual appearance. The Microsoft Windows XP family, including Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional Edition, sets new standards for efficiency, stability and provides advanced productivity and support tools.1

The purpose of the
Introduction to Windows XP for Court Reporters series is to allow reporters to gain and refine the skills they will need to work efficiently in the Windows XP operating environment and to use its advanced functionality to make their jobs easier.

XPI: Working with the Windows XP
Interface provides basic knowledge about the Windows XP interface. XP II: Managing Files and the Computer in Windows XP concentrates on managing files, accessing the World Wide Web, and customizing many file management features of Windows XP such as the Start Menu and Control Panel. XPIII: User and System Settings in Windows XP covers e-mail communication and advanced network and user topics.

Each course is arranged in groups of related projects. Multimedia presentations walk the user through each project in a simulated Windows XP environment and are supported by a text guide that describes steps in more detail and provides annotation. Storyboards allow the user to save the projects for guidance to repeat the steps in the user’s Windows XP operating environment. Review quizzes allow users to test their knowledge, and a final exam measures overall mastery of the material. Interactive games involving the subject matter are also provided as optional reinforcement in each course.

> It is not necessary to take the courses from a Windows XP operating environment. Users of Windows 98 or higher (excluding Windows NT) may take these courses. Please read minimum technical requirements needed to access the courses.

Users may earn CEUs approved by the National Association of Court Reporters (NCRA) by completing the course successfully; following the application procedures described in each course; and submitting the completed application with appropriate NCRA fee to NCRA. Please see information on CEUs.
