AOL Users Receiving E-mail from Stenograph

[INQUIRY]

I have not received my e-mail from Stenograph.

[SOLUTION]

When an AOL member sets their AOL mail to avoid spam, what one option does is refuse all mail coming from the Internet, accepting only mail coming from addresses with the domain name @aol.com.

Unfortunately, if your mail is set like this the email sent to you from Stenograph is refused because it comes from the domain @stenograph.com; therefore you may not be able to receive your online course password, responses to support or customer service questions and notification of product updates.

So if you are an AOL member, please be sure the e-mail option to refuse all e-mail coming from domain names other than @AOL.com is turned off.  Alternatively you can provide us with an e-mail address from another domain such as @yahoo.com or @hotmail.com that is capable of receiving e-mail from all sources.

For more details read below:

To make sure you can receive your Stenograph e-mail, please do the following:

  1. Sign on under your main AOL screen name
  2. Go to the mail center
  3. Then select mail controls
  4. Then select setup mail controls
  5. Then choose the screen name to modify
  6. Next you will see these options:
    • Allow all email
    • Allow all email from all AOL members and only from selected internet domains and addresses
    • Allow email from only AOL members
    • Allow email only from selected AOL members, internet domains, and addresses
    • Block email from selected AOL members, internet domains, and addresses
    • Block all email

You need to select the one that will "allow selected internet domains". There is a box on the side (type domain or email address here) where you should enter the domain name, in that box enter “stenograph.com”.

Stenograph.com

If this doesn't work with the version of AOL you have you will need to contact AOL for further instructions on how to receive e-mail from domains other the AOL.com.

The information above has been posted as an attempt to help you. For further assistance, please contact your AOL support service.

Important Information for AOL Users

Blackboard advises us that these are Internet Service Providers who "attempt to capture their audience through a dynamic Web interface often at the expense of functionality. As part of their software they each provide an internal web browser that allows users to browse the Web. Often, these Web browsers are either customized and/or are older versions of IE (Internet Explorer). We do not recommend using these browsers with Blackboard Software.

CAUTION: Using these particular internal browsers may cause sporadic problems with your online course. To minimize the possibility of browser related problems, we strongly recommend using Internet Explorer* when accessing your online courses. Most computers have an updated version of Internet Explorer pre-installed. Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher is the recommended browser to use. You can update to a higher version at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/

Please follow the instructions below if you are using AOL;

OPENING ANOTHER BROWSER (while using AOL as your default browser):

1. Sign on through AOL (access the Internet)
2. Minimize your AOL browser
3. Double click on the Internet Explorer (IE) icon on your desktop (opens up IE)
4. Go to www.stenographu.com, then click on the "If you have a user ID click
here" button, you will be directed to the Blackboard login screen, click login.
5. Enter your user ID and password, click login.
6. Access your course.

*Netscape browsers should NOT be used to access the online courses.
